What Is The ISA Adult First Check and How Does it Apply to My Organisation?
The Protection of Vulnerable Adults (POVA) scheme was introduced in July 2004. The scheme was changed in October 2009 to correspond with the new ISA Registration and is now called the ISA Adult First Check.
ISA Adult First is a service provided by the CRB. It can be used in cases where a person is permitted to start work with a care home, domiciliary care agency or on an adult placement scheme before a CRB Disclosure has been obtained. This situation is permitted with rare exception and only when in accordance with the terms of the Department of Health guidance.
There is a statutory duty that requires care providers to check the ISA Vulnerable Adult list to determine if a candidate is on it. Referrals and checks made against the ISA Vulnerable Adult list identify persons who are banned from working in a care position with vulnerable adults.
