The End for Harry?

Harry Redknapp will be sacked by Tottenham Hotspur, spelling the end of his colourful career in football if he is found guilty of tax evasion, according to a leading employment law expert.

Mr Redknapp, 62, attended Bishopsgate police station to be charged with a £40,000 tax evasion. It relates to two payments totalling US $295,000 allegedly made by former Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric to Mr Redknapp via a Monaco bank account.

Mr Mandaric has also been charged with tax evasion, and both men are due to appear before magistrates next month.

Peter Mooney, Head of Consultancy at Employment Law Advisory Services (ELAS), insists that Spurs will be quite within their rights to show him the door, if the charges against him stick.

Mr. Mooney, of ELAS, said: “If Harry is found guilty this is the beginning of the end of one of the most colourful careers in football.

“Tottenham Hotspur will be quite within their rights to sack him if he is found guilty. In fact, I would go so far as to say that they will have no choice but to sack him.

“There is a strict code of conduct that must be followed by people in positions of authority in football, and a criminal conviction for tax evasion is a clear breach of that code.

“And it also means that no other club would be able to employ him either, so if he is found guilty it would be the beginning of the end for Harry.”
