ELAS Predicts a Dark Friday for Employees as Staff Skive for Sunshine and Tennis

Millions of workers are predicted to skive work tomorrow to watch tennis and bask in Britain’s sunshine.

Leading employment law experts have forecast tomorrow (July 03) as a black day for employers as record numbers of workers are expected to skip work. With Employersafe HR software, businesses can now keep track of unauthorised absences.

A combination of Andy Murray’s Wimbledon success and soaring temperatures is anticipated to create a heightened ‘Friday Feeling’ phenomenon with workers not bothering to turn up to work at all.

This surge in staff ‘pulling sickies’ will cost the country more than £50million, according to Employment Law Advisory Services.

Peter Mooney, Head of Consultancy, said: “We shouldn’t underestimate the draw of the heatwave and Andy Murray reaching the semi-finals at Wimbledon.

“Our evidence suggests that more and more workers see the good weather on a Friday afternoon as too good an opportunity to miss, and this combined with the tennis is not good for employers.

“We have estimated that the Friday Feeling already costs British business just over £50million a year, which all goes to form part of the overall £13billion cost of workplace absenteeism.

“We are predicting that tomorrow will be the worst ever case of “Friday Feeling.”

A growing number of bosses are seeing through ‘sickies’ and are using this sophisticated personnel software to help them identify whether staff have a habit of unexpected absence on Fridays or in sunny periods.

ELAS’s Employersafe HR software help bosses counteract the Friday Feeling with a computer programme that tracks patterns in workers’ absence.

And if managers decide they want to take disciplinary action against serial sunbathers or Friday afternoon slackers then the software can also guide them through the legal process.
